Cici's - Peoria, IL
On Saturday (not friday) - Aug 5th we visited the "new" Cici's in Peoria. It's a pizza buffet place... and it's been there, we discovered, since March 2006. MUCH to our dismay, we have been missing OUT! This place was Great! - As the hubster put it, "It's a HECK of a lot better than Godfather's"
SEVERAL flavors of pizza, GOOD pan pizza, including Spinach, ham & pineapple, mushroom & chicken, BBQ chicken, and the winner of the most unheard of (by me) pizza, was the Curly Mac & Cheese pizza! (and it was GREAT!) They have several more flavors and they just keep on coming.... too many to name.
They also serve 3 types of salad, and a couple dessert items... cinnamon rolls (YUM) and dessert pizza which I didn't have room to try!
This is a place you HAVE to try. $4.49 for the buffet, and $1.19 for a drink cup. (free refills) - now that is a bargain!.

Davis Bros. - Peoria, IL
On Friday, July 28, we visited Davis Brothers Pizza in Peoria. I'm glad to say we are not reviewing the service here, since this waitress clearly did not want to be at work.
The pizza here can be explained thusly:
CRUST: Good, it has cornmeal on the bottom which gives it an unexpected flavor.
SAUCE: Ok.
TOPINGS: Don't count on fresh mushrooms here, they are canned rubber replicas. The cheese is interesting, they use rectangles of yellow and white cheddar. Quite good cheese.
Leonardo's Pizza - Peoria, IL
Next stop was Leonardo's. Whatever scale we finally come up with for rating pizza will have to show Leonardo's at the top. They have been my favorite pizza place for 9 years. I can't say enough about them so to avoid sounding like a commercial here are some factual details:
CRUST - Yumm. Oh, it has some parmesan in the dough mixture, gives it an odd but great texture. Never doughy.
SAUCE - Yea!there isn't any! Yup. Leonardo's puts tomatoes on TOP of the pizza instead of sauce under the toppings. Hence the toppings don't slide off and you don't get big bites of tomato sauce, which I don't like anyway.
TOPPINGS - They use FRESH mushrooms, NOT CANNED. (triple bonus points for this)
Like I said... Top of the Scale!

Geo's - Metamora, IL (July 15)
First stop on the Friday night pizza trail was Geo's Pizzeria in Metamora, IL. Our visit was on July 15th but I just got the blog started so we have a bit of catching up to do. The idea is to review a different pizza every Friday nite. To keep it consistent, we have decided to have 'pan style' pizza in as many places as possible. That way the comparisons are apples to apples.
Geo's pizza was Good, with a CAPITAL "G". It was Very good.
CRUST: their crust was soft, yet crunchy on the edges
SAUCE: they didn't "over-sauce it", which is great; I don't like a lot of sauce.
TOPPINGS: toppings were plentiful, they didn't skimp on the pepperoni.
We will definitely return there once the tastings are done!
